#2 DAY 2...I can't believe it..2 days in a row!

Took no pictures today to post but Sabryn is almost totally walking now.  She started about a month ago when she was 11 months old, letting go of furniture and just standing up in the middle of crawling but now she easily lets go of furniture and adult assistance.  She does prefer to crawl over walk but she is getting more confident on just taking off on her own. 




She will be 1 year old in 7 more days.  Where has time gone. Here's a little bit about the past 6 months with our angel:


In mid- October 2009 we got word that Sabryn (whose given name was Aaliyah Lee) was placed in foster care. From the time we knew she was in foster care, Deke and I began the process of getting her placed with us in Texas for adoption. On Monday, February 8th at 3:15pm I received a call from Sabryn's case worker that the judge had ruled that she be placed with us (family) immediately.We flew to Denver to pick up Sabryn on February 10, 2010 at 2:30.  She was 6 months and 3 days old.  It had been a long 4 months of waiting but she was with a wonderful foster family that loved her very much.


Below is the write up that I sent out to friends and family on February 14th, 2010 when we finally arrived home in Texas with our baby girl.


We finally have our sweet, precious baby girl, Sabryn (or “Bryn” for short) with us. She is such a joy. We got word Monday, February 8th, that the judge ruled that she was to be placed with us ASAP. We flew to Denver early Wednesday, February 10th. We went to pick her up around 2:30 Mountain Time. The paperwork and exchange took approximately 1 hour and we had our precious angel. The flight home however was not so lovely.


We were scheduled to fly out of Denver the next morning. Deke was to go to Austin for work and I was going to fly back to Dallas. Well, Dallas was getting 10-12 inches of snow and Dallas Love Field closed the airport…so after getting bumped 6 flights we finally took off bound for Houston and hoping to fly out from there to Dallas (not having a clue where our luggage was headed). On the first flight to Amarillo, TX, Sabryn just played and cooed the whole time. When we took off from Amarillo to Houston, she drank a bottle and was asleep the entire flight. As soon as we landed she woke up and we sat on the runway for an hour and 15 minutes and all she did was giggled and play with toys…she was a dream.


We then spent the night at Deke’s high school track coach's house with his family. (Mind you we had no luggage –so we slept in our clothes). Southwest could not get us on a flight all day Friday and we would have to be on standby until mid-day Saturday (because Dallas’ flights were booked because Dallas was hosting the NBA All-Stars game at Cowboys Stadium over the weekend.) So, Deke and I rented a car and drove back to Dallas Friday, late afternoon. We pulled in to Dallas airport (our cell phones dead…tired and had to go retrieve my luggage at baggage claim…well, there was 600+ bags that were unclaimed because of the airport closure…it was a mess….and the airline couldn’t locate where Deke’s bag was (either left in Denver or it got on a flight to Austin)(we did find it in Austin though!)


We finally arrived home, Friday night at 11:05. FINALLY!!! Zoie, our dog, loves Sabryn! She could really care less about her. She goes up to Sabryn and touches her with her nose and then walks away…it is like Zoie love kisses and Sabryn just loves it and sometimes giggles. Deke immediately went to bed because he had to drive to Austin the next morning at 4am. So, I get to practice being single mommy and get Bryn on a schedule!


Here are some of Sabryn’s details.
Name: Sabryn Kyah Gibson (once adoption goes through 6 months from now)
She was born August 7, 2009 (so she is a little over 6 months old)
She weighed 8 lbs. and 13oz.
She was 21 inches long
Brown eyes
Black hair


-She is very “handsy”. Always wanting to touch people, objects, animals, (loves moving targets).
-She currently has about 3-4 inches of afro puff going on right now. She has more hair than most 2 year olds. LOL. Her hair is very soft and curly... very easy to manage and will be beautiful as she grows. She has to wear a headband to keep he long curly locks out or eyes and off her face. The extra large, cute bows I added because I like her being a big bow head! She is just too precious!
-She eats every 4 hours or so. Her formula is Enfamil Lipil.
-She is obsessed with her pacifier. (it’s not really an issue at this point so I’ll re-address it if she is still sucking on it when she is four!) lol
-Her diaper size is currently size 2.
-Her clothing is on the small side. We are putting her in 6-9 mo. clothing but a lot are still too big.
-She twists her fingers around her curls when she is bored, going to sleep or getting agitated.
-She is a really happy baby. She hardly ever cries. Loves to watch the bright colors on TV. Loves toys with flashing lights
-She sleeps 8-10 hours at night with one feeding in the middle of the night (but she is so easy…she drinks her 4 oz.- rocks for about 5 minutes and she is out again for the next 4-5 hours). She is starting to teeth so we’ll see how long this lasts.

I am taking 6 weeks from teaching to spend time with our new angel. I want to thank you everyone that sent prayers, called, texted and have been concerned. After three months of stacks of paperwork, lots of prayers, social workers, lawyers, flights from hell…our baby is finally here. God is good!
